THE CHALLENGE

NZ dairy farming is facing a $150 billion ownership transition.
The banking model hasn't changed since the 1980s.

Over the next decade, $150 billion of rural assets will change hands as one generation exits farm ownership and the next steps up. The farmers most capable of taking on that ownership, proven operators with strong cashflow and disciplined financial management, are routinely blocked.

Not because they can't service debt. Because the bank's model says they can't.

Traditional agricultural lending hasn't meaningfully evolved in decades. LVR is the primary gating mechanism. Cashflow is secondary. The result is a system that rewards those who already own assets, and keeps those who farm brilliantly but haven't accumulated equity waiting on the sidelines.

of NZ rural assets changing hands over the next decade.

The farmers best placed to take on that ownership are being assessed on the value of their assets — not the quality of their farming. That's the problem this product solves.

The reason this lending is possible is the Figured platform

Banks assess risk based on what a farmer owns. Figured assesses risk based on how well they farm — financial performance, forecasting discipline, engagement with their advisor, consistency across seasons. For the first time, NZ's best dairy farmers can access lending terms that reflect their actual capability, not just their balance sheet.

The forward-looking connection: The same approach that helps advisors navigate their clients' season ahead and stay on top of managing their finances, is what makes this lending possible. Looking forward and managing a plan regularly and over time, isn't just advisory best practice — it's now the foundation for accessing farm ownership.

Everything you need to know

Who is eligible for a farm progression loan?

Figured farmers with strong financial performance and consistent platform engagement — identified through the Figured Performance Index. The product is initially available to farmers working with engaged advisors, and is currently in an active validation phase.

What LVR is available?

65–80% LVR, depending on the borrower's profile and assessment. This is materially wider than the main banks currently offer for whole-of-farm financing in NZ.

Is there an upper limit on loan size?

No. Loan size is assessed on a case-by-case basis through the lending process.

What is the advisor's role, and is it compensated?

Advisors play a central role — from identifying opportunities through to ongoing reporting and monitoring. Figured contributes up to $5,000 toward the advisory work involved in planning and the succesful loan process. This is a contribution toward your invoiced professional time, not a referral fee or success payment.

Does the farmer need to be on Figured?

Yes. The lending is only available to Figured farmers. The platform data — financial performance, forecasting discipline, engagement history — is central to how risk is assessed and managed.

What stage is this product at?

We're in an active validation phase, working with a small group of partner firms to confirm the credit process end-to-end. Now is the time to identify opportunities in your portfolio.
