Heard This Before?

“I make decisions alone because my accountant only has last year’s numbers when I need today’s.”

Most NZ farm businesses are built around an annual accounting relationship. The accountant produces the year-end work, and a clear view of what happened. It’s accurate, but it's looking in the rear-view mirror.

But farm decisions don't wait for year end. Decisions arrive at any time, and when they do, most farmers are stuck with a picture that’s months out of date. By the time the numbers are assembled, the opportunity has either passed, or the farmer had to make their decisions alone.

A growing number of farming teams are working differently. They’re using a platform that keeps the books up to date all year, which can forecast the season ahead, model new scenarios in minutes, and let agri-aware AI cut more of the manual work. When the big decisions arrive, they’re prepared.

That platform is Figured.

Building a Farm Team to Navigate the Road Ahead

Built for the Way NZ Farming Works

Production Management

On-Farm Activity, Connected to Your Finances

In Figured, production data connects directly to your finances. Milk income flows from your preferred processors, livestock movements sync from your production apps, and crop costs build through the season. The numbers you're looking at reflect what's happening on the farm right now.

That's the foundation everything else in Figured builds on. When you or your accountant opens the file to build a plan or work through a decision, you’re starting from data that can make a difference in the moment.

Budgeting & Forecasting

A Financial Plan that Moves with Your Season

Figured builds a seasonal financial plan connecting your cash position, production targets, and capital commitments in one view. As conditions shift through the season, your team can reforecast without rebuilding from scratch, keeping the plan relevant all year.

When a major decision comes up, you and your accountant can model the options against your actual position, seeing what each change could mean before you commit.

Succession Planning

Model the Path Forwards for the Next Generation

Different succession and ownership pathways can be laid out in Figured as detailed financial projections, with ownership structures, debt positions, and enterprise changes mapped year by year. The platform supports as many scenarios as the decision calls for, built from your live farm data.

Additionally, for farmers working toward ownership, the Farm Progression Loan, available through your adviser via Figured and Oxbury Agricultural Finance, offers a lending pathway like no other in NZ — measured against farming performance, not asset values alone.

Reporting

Generate Farm Reports that Write Themselves

When it’s time to refinance, report to the trust or governance board, or fetch this year’s results for a planning conversation, Figured gives you and your accountant fast, custom reports drawn from live farm data.

Create bank packs instantly straight from your production trackers, or customise a highly visual template and reproduce it as many times as you like — with the data updating itself. Then, Auto Analyst uses smart AI to add the commentary for you, saving you time writing it all up yourself.

Improving the Business of NZ Farming Operations

Live Dairy Data, from Fonterra to Financial Plan

For NZ dairy farmers, Figured connects directly to Fonterra, Synlait, Miraka, Westland, and Open Country, so kgMS production and milk income flow straight into your financial plan as the season progresses.

Plus, sharemilker, contract milker, and owner-operator arrangements are all handled natively, with income split, DairyNZ levy calculations, and production reconciliation calculated correctly for your structure.

Livestock Finances that Cut the Office Work

Figured builds financial plans connecting stock movements, trading decisions, and seasonal income to your actual cash position, using a grid-style interface built for how sheep and beef farming works.

Plus, Herd Scheme and NSC valuations update automatically from IRD when new rates are published each year, and class-by-class stock reconciliation keeps your records accurate through the season. Then, when killsheets arrive, AI reads the data and puts it where it needs to go in Figured.

All together, that means more time out in the field, and less time stuck in the office assembling data.

Crop-Level Margins, Tracked Through the Season

Figured breaks income and costs down to crop type and season on a per-hectare basis, grounding rotation decisions in what each crop actually returned. That same view builds into cashflow planning from sowing through to sale, tracking how the season develops at each stage.

The Inventory Tracker picks up from there, with harvested crops and on-hand inputs in a single view, valued at cost. Year-end valuations follow from records you've been keeping all along.

The milk trackers and planners are nice and simple. Figured will save me from playing around in Excel spreadsheets – even if my budgets and cashflow forecasts are pretty comprehensive.

With Figured, I feel like it gives you a bit more clarity going forward. Running the numbers takes the guesswork out of forecasting — if you change one figure, it flows through to the next, so you're not wondering if your spreadsheet formula's correct. My advice for other farmers: get on board, have a try. It'll give you a lot more confidence and a lot more time.

If you're not measuring what you're doing, you can't manage it. And Figured has certainly given us a greater ability to manage things, because we are measuring so much more.

Questions

Figured for NZ Farmers — FAQ

Figured connects to Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks Online. If your farm accounting runs through any of those three, you can use Figured on top of it.

If you're on an alternative accounting system, or using spreadsheets or paper-based records, you'd need to migrate to one of the supported systems first. While migrating to a modern platform can seem daunting, most farms never go back — there's a reason they're so popular.

It may help to talk to a Figured-enabled accountant about what you need to do next to upgrade your accounting system, then get onto Figured.

Figured is a complete farm financial management platform that works alongside your accounting software. Connect it to Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online, and Figured adds the farm-specific layer on top: production tracking, seasonal planning, livestock and crop records, and financial reporting built around how agricultural businesses work.

The bookkeeping itself stays in Xero or your equivalent. Whether those records are kept by a farm bookkeeper, your accountant, or you directly, Figured sees that data and combines it with your production records to give you a financial picture that goes well beyond what accounting software provides on its own.

Your job is keeping the underlying data current — reconciling bank transactions in Xero and recording farm movements as they happen. The more current that is, the more useful Figured is for both of you.

Your accountant's job is to work with that data inside Figured. They configure your farm's trackers, manage the planning and reporting, and handle the year-end financial work. If they also offer advisory, they can help you plan ahead too — using Figured’s budgeting and scenario modelling tools.

When both sides have done their part, the conversation between you shifts from what happened last year, to what's going on right now and, more importantly, what might happen next.

Figured is a monthly subscription, and the cost depends on which product tier your accountant sets you up on — Farm Reporter for reporting, or Farm Manager if you want planning and forecasting on top of that.

Most farmers don’t manage the subscription directly. Your accountant handles the setup, and depending on how they work, they’ll either pass the cost on to you separately or fold it into your advisory fees. The best person to ask is your accountant — they can tell you exactly what applies to your farm before you commit to anything.

If you want to see current pricing for your market, it’s available on our pricing page.

Beyond the planning and reporting tools, Figured gives farmers access to farm-specific financial services through the platform, available via your accountant.

These include working capital accessible within 24 hours, Milk Price Protection offered through StoneX, and the Farm Progression Loan via Oxbury Agricultural Finance (a lending pathway based on farming performance rather than asset values).

Ask your accountant what applies to your situation — the right services depend on your farm type and where you’re headed.

The best place to get started with Figured as a farmer is checking whether your accountant or adviser is already on the platform. While you can use Figured yourself, we recommend it as a system that benefits the full farming team.

Getting your production trackers configured correctly, connecting to your accounting software, and making sure the opening position is right all benefit from someone who knows the platform well. Trying to do it without an adviser tends to mean a slower start and more things to unpick later.

Once you’re set up, though, you have your own access to the platform and can see your financial and production data at any time. The goal is for both you and your accountant to have access to the same live data, which you can view at the same time.
