Intelligent Tools Built Natively Into the Platform

Intelligent, AI-powered systems are woven naturally into Figured, like report commentary that writes itself. We’re making the platform better and faster, with more in development.

Sound Familiar?

"When I need to make a call, I don't have good numbers β€” I'm going on instinct and experience."

Most farming decisions don't wait for year end. They arrive mid-season, out of the blue, and sometimes with hours to act. By the time you've assembled the full financial picture, the moment can pass.

The problem is that general accounting systems are built around the compliance calendar β€” they tell you what happened in the past, but they don’t look at what's coming next. When decisions arrive, they can’t help.

Instead, a growing number of NZ dairy farmers are working differently. By adopting an agri-specific platform that provides a live picture of their farm, when it comes time to make a major decision, everything they need is there.

Figured is that platform.

What You Get

How Figured Works for NZ Dairy Farmers

Figured is built to give dairy farmers access to everything they need in one place, with tools to plan, model, report, and make the season’s big decisions.

A Financial Plan that Moves with Your Season

Build a plan that connects your monthly kgMS targets, milk income, feed costs, and capital commitments to your farm's actual cash position.

When the milk payout shifts or cost pressures arrive mid-season, reforecast without starting from scratch. Then, model scenarios of what different milk price or stocking rate assumptions mean for your year-end position before you commit to anything.

Generate Instant Reports with Commentary that Writes Itself

When it’s time to refinance, report to the trust or governance board, or fetch this year’s results for a planning conversation, Figured gives you and your accountant fast, custom reports drawn from live farm data.

Create bank packs instantly straight from your Milk Tracker, or customise a highly visual template and reproduce it as many times as you like β€” with the data updating itself. Then, Auto Analyst adds the commentary for you, saving you time writing it all up yourself.

Real Production Data, Connected to Your Financial Plan

Figured connects with the production data that defines dairy financials. Monthly kgMS production syncs automatically from Fonterra, Synlait, Miraka, and other NZ processors, flowing directly into your budget each month. Sharemilker and contract milker arrangements are handled natively as well, with income splits, levy calculations, and production reconciliation all in one place.

Whatever the structure of your operation, Figured calculates each arrangement correctly so your plan reflects how the season is actually tracking.

Plan What Comes Next with Numbers to Back It Up

The decisions that shape a farming family's future deserve more than a conversation at tax time. Scenario modelling in Figured lets you map different pathways in financial terms before you commit, so you can see what your operation looks like under different ownership structures, debt scenarios, or enterprise changes.

For dairy farmers working toward farm ownership, the Farm Progression Loan β€” available through your accountant via Figured and Oxbury Agricultural Finance β€” offers a pathway based on farming performance rather than asset values alone.

Protect Your Milk Income Without Giving Up the Upside

Most NZ dairy operations are stuck absorbing milk price volatility. Milk Price Protection gives you an alternative.

Powered by StoneX, this option secures a minimum milk price while preserving the upside if the market rises. You can model the cashflow and breakeven impact of different price scenarios directly in Figured before you commit, and the application is done in the same platform.

The milk trackers and planners are nice and simple. Figured will save me from playing around in Excel spreadsheets – even if my budgets and cashflow forecasts are pretty comprehensive.

With Figured, I feel like it gives you a bit more clarity going forward. Running the numbers takes the guesswork out of forecasting β€” if you change one figure, it flows through to the next, so you're not wondering if your spreadsheet formula's correct. My advice for other farmers: get on board, have a try. It'll give you a lot more confidence and a lot more time.

Questions

Figured for Dairy β€” FAQ

Figured is available to contract milkers and sharemilkers.

As an early-stage dairy operator, you’re running a business with real income, real costs, and real decisions to make. Having a clear, current picture of your cashflow, your position against the plan, and your breakeven milk price is essential when margins are tight.

Figured also has financial services available specifically for contract milkers and sharemilkers. That includes access to milk price hedging and unsecured working capital finance, plus, for sharemilkers building toward farm ownership, pathways to secured livestock finance, and land-based lending through Figured’s banking partnerships. Talk to your accountant about what options might be available to you.

Don’t have an adviser? Check out our trusted partners: Find an Adviser

While you can absolutely use Figured by yourself as a farmer, we do recommend checking to see if your accountant is already using it.

Getting the Milk Tracker and livestock records configured correctly, connecting to your accounting software, and making sure the opening position is right all benefit from someone who knows the platform well. Trying to do it without an adviser tends to mean a slower start and more things to unpick later.

Once you're set up, though, you have your own access to the platform and can see your financial and stock data at any time β€” not just when your accountant runs a report. The goal is for both you and your accountant to have access to the same live data, which you can view at the same time.

Figured connects to Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks Online. If your farm accounting runs through any of those three, you can use Figured on top of it.

If you're on an alternative accounting system, or using spreadsheets or paper-based records, you'd need to migrate to one of the supported systems first. While migrating to a modern platform can seem daunting, most farms never go back β€” there's a reason they're so popular.

It may help to talk to a Figured-enabled accountant about what you need to do next to upgrade your accounting system, then get onto Figured.

Yes. Banks want more than year-end accounts, they want forward cashflows, a current debt position, and a financial picture that's been kept up to date throughout the season. Figured produces all of that from your live data.

When a lending conversation comes up, you and your accountant can update assumptions, run a scenario at a different milk price, and have something credible ready in hours, if not minutes. Some NZ banks are already looking more favourably at farming clients who can bring this kind of visibility to a review.

Figured can also help you build your relationship with the bank. The farmers who get the most from their lender give them visibility throughout the year, and often include them in regular farm meetings. With the bank on your farm team throughout the year, they don't need to be caught up every time you bring them into the conversations β€” making it easier to have the big conversations, and get the outcomes you need.

Your job is keeping the underlying data current β€” reconciling bank transactions in Xero and recording stock movements as they happen. The more current that is, the more useful Figured is for both of you.

Your accountant's job is to work with that data inside Figured. They configure the Milk and Livestock Trackers, manage the planning and reporting, and handle the year-end financial work: stock valuations, accruals, and the reports that go to the IRD and the bank.

When both sides have done their part, the conversation between you shifts from what happened last year, to what's going on right now and, more importantly, what might happen next.

Figured is a monthly subscription, and the cost depends on which product tier your accountant sets you up on β€” Farm Reporter for reporting, or Farm Manager if you want planning and forecasting on top of that.

Most farmers don’t manage the subscription directly. Your accountant handles the setup, and depending on how they work, they’ll either pass the cost on to you separately or fold it into your fees. The best person to ask is your accountant β€” they can tell you exactly what applies to your farm before you commit to anything.

If you want to see current pricing for your market, it’s available on our pricing page.
