"We built a budget at the start of the season, but by May no one was looking at it."

Most farm plans are built once, before the season gets underway. A few months later, the season changes and things start to look different. The plan that made sense in spring stops reflecting what's happening.

When a major decision arrives mid-season, the numbers are months old. But a call still has to be made, so it gets made on feel.

Farmers know they need visibility, which is why a growing number are doing it differently. They're working on a platform that keeps their data relevant all year. When conditions shift, the plan shifts too, and when the big calls arrive, they have all the information they need to make the right call.

That platform is Figured.

What Figured Brings to Budgeting & Forecasting

Budgeting

Farm Budgets That Connect Production to Cashflow

Figured is where cash and agricultural data come together to show your real farm position, in a structure that reflects how farming actually works.

The Planning Grid connects production, indirect costs, and seasonal income directly to your cashflow. That way when a cost starts to trend up or down, you aren't left wondering why β€” simply dig into the detail to see the production activity behind every change.

Reforecasting

When Conditions Change, Update Your Plan in Minutes

In Figured, your live actuals replace your forecasted numbers automatically as the year progresses. And if something changes mid-season, it takes minutes to adjust income assumptions, change production volume expectations, or account for a new cost pressure. You won't override the original budget, and you don't have to start from scratch.

Then when the season ends and it's time to build next year's budget, rollover last year's actuals and start with half the work done for you.

Scenario Planning

Model Decisions Before You Make Them

You don't need a crystal ball to predict the future. Figured's Scenario Planner is built for testing major decisions that could play out over years. You and your accountant can model different pathways from your actual cash position, testing the financial consequences before you commit.

Run as many scenarios as the decision requires and bring the results to the next meeting, whether that's a business planning workshop, succession meeting, or a lending review.

Collaboration

Accessed by the Whole Farming Team

Figured is built for the way farms work β€” and that's as a team. You, family members, your accountant, advisor, any consultants or legal representatives, and the bank can all access the same live data, in a view that is tailored to the needs of the audience.

When someone needs the data, whoever they may be, it's there, organized, and current.

You don't need to handle everything when you have the right team behind you β€” that's where a Figured-certified advisor comes in.

Find a Figured Advisor

Figured is an online cloud tool that enables clients to plan their cashflow scenario planning for one to five years into the future. Its ability to look at profitability on the farm and not just focus on cash gives a great understanding about how the business is performing.

The beauty of Figured is that it helps you look forward. It gives you a picture, and it might be six to 12 months down the road of where you're going. If you don't like that picture, you've got that time to change. It's just better than looking back at last year's numbers when it's a bit late to make a change.

If you're not measuring what you're doing, you can't manage it. And Figured has certainly given us a greater ability to manage things, because we are measuring so much more.

Integrations

Figured Works With the Software You Already Use

Figured doesn't replace your existing software β€” it plugs in on top, pulling live data from Xero or QuickBooks Online, and integrates with the apps you already use to manage the farm.

One Connected Plan, Split by Enterprise

Figured brings together both sides of a mixed farming operation, giving you one place to create detailed budgets and forecasts that take into account all of the details. Production trackers feed livestock movements and crop activity straight into the plan, which Figured then allocates by income, cost, and enterprise type. When conditions shift mid-season, reforecast the whole operation in one place, and see straight away which enterprise is carrying the change.

Questions

Figured for Farm Budgeting & Forecasting β€” FAQ

While you can use Figured as a farmer without your accountant, we recommend checking whether your accountant or advisor is already on the platform first.

Setting up the platform correctly, including the accounting software connection, the trackers for your farm type, and the opening financial position, benefits from someone who knows the system well. Trying to do it without an advisor tends to mean a slower start and more things to unpick later.

Once you are set up, you have your own access to the platform and can see your farm's financial data whenever you need it. The goal is for both you and your accountant to work from the same live numbers, so every conversation starts from a shared, current picture.

Figured is built for this. As you update your production and inventory trackers throughout the season, or as they update themselves where you have an app integration like Agworld, the budget should change on its own as the new numbers flow in.

Then, if something happens that means your original forecast is now out, rather than spending an afternoon re-keying all the information, simply update the forecast columns in the same live plan β€” adjusting income assumptions, re-estimating production volumes, or accounting for a new cost pressure.

What used to take an afternoon in the office takes only minutes in Figured.

Figured connects to QuickBooks Online and Xero. If your farm accounting runs through either of those, you can use Figured on top of it.

If you're on an alternative accounting system, or using spreadsheets or paper-based records, you'd need to migrate to one of the supported systems first. While migrating to a modern platform can seem daunting, most farms never go back β€” there's a reason they're so popular.

It may help to talk to a Figured-enabled accountant about what you need to do next to upgrade your accounting system, then get onto Figured.

Your job is keeping the underlying data current β€” reconciling bank transactions in your accounting software and recording farm movements as they happen. The more current that is, the more useful Figured is for both of you.

Your accountant's job is to work with that data inside Figured. They configure your farm's trackers, manage the planning and reporting, and handle the year-end financial work: valuations, accruals, and the reports that go to the IRS and the bank. If they also offer advisory, they can help you plan ahead too β€” using Figured's budgeting and scenario modeling tools.

When both sides have done their part, the conversation between you shifts from what happened last year, to what's going on right now and, more importantly, what might happen next.

Figured is a monthly subscription, and the cost depends on which product tier your accountant sets you up on β€” Farm Reporter for reporting, or Farm Manager if you want planning and forecasting on top of that.

Most farmers don't manage the subscription directly. Your accountant or advisor handles the setup, and depending on how they work, they'll either pass the cost on to you separately or fold it into your advisory fees. The best person to ask is your accountant β€” they can tell you exactly what applies to your farm before you commit to anything.
